However, have you ever wondered about the origin and history that precede these notorious clubs? They originated and became popular in Victorian England, which proliferated throughout the s. XIX, consequence of a series of political reforms that gradually yielded the right to vote to great masses of English men. With these new freedoms, many of them felt a debt to society, as well as elevated their status to that of a true Gentleman.

The Gentlemen’s Club soon proliferated as a place of meeting and rest, in which men could relax and rest, but also discuss with their peers the most burning political issues of the time. At its peak, it is estimated that more than 400 of these clubs came into existence in England, with great influence in political spheres and with long waiting lists and rigorous capacity limits for membership. Beyond England, these types of organizations have maintained their status and importance to the present day in much of the world, with particular relevance in countries of the former Common Wealth: India, Canada, Australia… However, if there is one thing that can be highlighted about the gentlemen’s club, it would be that they became an authentic meeting place for their members, a place that they felt as a second home.
